Dan Cooke to head up sustainability at Pennon
Viridor’s director of regulatory affairs, Dan Cooke, has been appointed group head of sustainability for its FTSE 250 parent company, Pennon.

This is a new role within the company’s environment & sustainability department, and will ensure the development and delivery of a refreshed sustainability strategy.
Mr Cooke will provide support guidance and advice to the group’s executive and operating companies, while challenging their management of sustainability issues.
Commenting on his new role, Mr Cooke said: “This is an exciting opportunity to demonstrate sustainability in the way we do business – from an environmental, social and governance perspective. The challenge of working towards a low-carbon future, stewarding natural capital and continuing to add value for all our stakeholders is one that we are rising to.”
BMRA re-appoints Burrage as president
British Metals Recycling Association (BMRA), the trade body that represents scrap metal organisations, has reappointed Susie Burrage as their president for another two years.

Ms Burrage, who is the managing director of Chesham-based metal recycling firm Recycled Products, said: “It is an honour and a privilege to be asked to serve another term as president of the BMRA, I have enjoyed every moment of my previous term, particularly meeting the members from all across the UK, attending meetings in the Houses of Parliament and representing us worldwide.
“I will continue to help the Association grow and develop new relationships with key stakeholders and I am really looking forward to the next two years.”
BMRA represents over 250 organisations working across UK’s £7 billion metal recycling sector.
As well as being the first female president of the BMRA in 100 years of scrap metal associations and federations, Ms Burrage is also treasurer of the European Recycling Industries Confederation (EuRIC) and president of its European Metal Trade and Recycling Branch, based in Brussels. In addition, she was recently appointed as UK Ambassador for the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), a global recycling industry association.
Suez announces executive committee appointment
Suez Recycling and Recovery UK has announced the appointment of Dr Tracey Leghorn to its executive committee as director of human resources.

Dr Leghorn has had an extensive career in HR and joins as a subject matter expert specialising in business performance, sustainable growth and large-scale transformational change.
Having worked for and advised organisations in both the public and private sectors, Dr Leghorn’s experience spans a range of industries and organisations, from the pharmaceutical, financial and technology sectors to working with the NHS, MOD, local government and the world’s largest food service provider.
Dr Leghorn succeeds Kevan Sproul in the role following his retirement in June 2018, after fifteen years with Suez.
Suez UK chief executive, David Palmer-Jones, said: “I am very pleased to welcome Dr Tracey Leghorn to SUEZ, and to the executive committee, where her specialist expertise will prove invaluable as we continue our transformational journey as both a sector and as a business.“
Peter Laking celebrates 50 years at Luxus
Peter Laking is celebrating 50 years with Louth-based technical plastics recycler and compounder Luxus.

Mr Laking started his career as a factory worker with the Luxus in 1968. The Lincolnshire firm had just seven employees at the time.
Five decades later, having worked his way up, Mr Laking is still working for Luxus as a maintenance and project engineering manager. He not only manages his engineering team, but is constantly found re-engineering machinery.
Luxus managing director, Peter Atterby, said Mr Laking is a “true asset”. “Throughout his 50 year career, Peter’s support has been instrumental to our growth every step of the way, from a burgeoning plastics recycler to a UK leading technical innovator at the very forefront of numerous markets.”
