Worker dies on NWH site in Dalkeith

A 47-year-old worker was killed in an incident in Dalkeith on Wednesday (20 June) at the premises of a recycling and waste business, writes Sarah Horton.

Named in Scottish newspapers as Andrew Darling, he was employed by SCG Supplies.

The worker suffered serious injuries and died at the scene on the premises of the head office of the NWH Group in Dalkeith, south east of Edinburgh.

A NWH Group spokesperson confirmed that the worker had been killed whilst on its site yesterday afternoon but added that he was not an employee.

Parts supplier

SCG Supplies Ltd based in North Lanarkshire, Scotland supplies parts for the crushing, screening and recycling industries. SCG Supplies Ltd told letsrecycle.com today (22 June) that they would not be commenting upon the incident.

Serious injuries

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police in Midlothian responded to the Mayfield Industrial Estate in Dalkeith at around 1.55pm on Wednesday 20th June following reports a man had suffered serious injuries on the premises.

“The Scottish Ambulance Service were also in attendance and the 47-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are liaising with the Health and Safety Executive in relation to this incident and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

A HSE spokesperson said: “HSE is aware of the incident and inspectors have attended the site. Police Scotland currently have the lead on this joint investigation with HSE.”

The Dalkeith depot was closed following the incident and will remain closed until the end of the week.
