South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has this afternoon (18 June) confirmed that a fire at a plastics recycling facility owned by Moulding Solutions in Rotherham is now out.
The service also stated that “in the early stages of investigations”, it believes that the fire was started accidentally.
Firefighters were called to the scene at around 4:30pm yesterday afternoon and around 12 fire engines and 60 firefighters tackled the blaze.
Fire officers urged people to avoid the area if at all possible and for local residents and to keep all windows and doors shut due to the smoke within the area.
Nobody was injured in the blaze but the road was closed while the incident was dealt with.

Area manager at the fire service, Stewart Nicholson, gave an overview of the fire service’s response, praising the how the fire was dealt with.
He said: “There were eight appliances on the scene, the make-up was quick; eight appliances and specials including a high-volume pump and turntable ladder. The firefighters and incident command teams present did a great job in terms of suppressing the fire quickly, to the point that by midnight we reduced the number of appliances to approximately six.”
The Environment Agency confirmed that it was continuing to work on site with the fire and rescue service to asses any potential pollution risk.
A spokesperson from Moulding Solutions said that the company does not wish to comment until the full facts on how the fire started are known.
On its website, Moulding Solutions describes itself as “the leading plastics recycler in South Yorkshire”, with facilities to process high volumes of both general plastic components and packaging as well as specialist heavy duty thick wall PE pipes and head waste.
