WRAP has announced the theme for Recycle Week 2018: ‘Recycling. We do. Because it matters.’
Taking place from Monday 24 to Sunday 30 September 2018, this year the focus will be on plastics. And, the resources charity is calling on local authorities and organisations in the sector to get involved.
Plastics
Introducing the theme, WRAP said: “This year, Blue Planet II motivated people to care about plastics in a way they never have before.
“Sustainability is now firmly on the national agenda and the public is looking to organisations to help solve major environmental issues. That makes Recycle Week a greater opportunity than ever to change people’s recycling behaviours whilst gaining positive publicity and building your organisation’s reputation.”
According to WRAP, the theme is designed to capture attention and put across “simple but important messages” about why recycling matters. Partners will have the opportunity to bust myths and demonstrate why recycling plastic is beneficial.
Benefits
Organised by WRAP under the Recycle Now brand, the annual event, which is now in its 15th year, aims to encourage the public to recycle more, by demonstrating the benefits of recycling items from all around the home.
Last year councils and businesses across the country hosted events to mark Recycle Week and raise public awareness about recycling and waste (see letsrecycle.com story).
For 2017, the generic theme chosen by WRAP was ‘Recycling – It’s Worth It!’. Each day of the campaign focused on a different material.
