The company, which also holds the contract to collect waste and recycling from households in the area, said it expected 20 tonnes of waste to be discarded by visitors to the town.

‘Momentous occasion’

It is thought that more than 100,000 people lined the streets of Windsor to celebrate the wedding of Prince Harry and Megan Markle on Saturday (19 May).

Commenting on the occasion, Mark Gray, general manager, Veolia Windsor, said: “It’s heart-warming to see the public celebrating on such a momentous occasion and we were right in the thick of it.

“Representing Veolia were 37 operatives, including 33 litter pickers with the support of four managers keeping the Long Walk clean and making sure the world got to experience the beauty of Windsor.

“We’re expecting 20 tonnes of waste to be discarded. Our dedicated staff were drafted in from across London, outside their usual shifts to assist, working alongside police and security services to ensure a safe, tidy route was maintained for onlookers, the wedding party and the happy couple.”
