RWM owners settle on September date for show

By 04/01/2018News

The new owners of the RWM exhibition have confirmed that they are to run the show in September rather than late October as originally proposed.

The switch back to a 12-13 September 2018 date comes after Prysm Group, which bought the event from Ascential last month, had resolved to move the date to 24-25 October to better fit in with the timing of its other environmental events.

Clash

However, at a meeting yesterday a number of concerns were raised about the late October date. Prysm was told that it clashed with school half term holidays, that the September date is well-established in the industry calendar and some exhibitors had already booked hotels. And, the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, which has a commercial interest in the event, was also in favour of a September date as were a number of senior industry figures involved with RWM.

Contamination Expo

Today Prysm confirmed the date as 12-13 September and said that three of its other events – the European Contamination Expo Series, Flood Expo and a coastal engineering event – will co-locate with RWM. CIWM is to host its RWM Gala Dinner during the show on the Wednesday night.

Exhibitors are already questioning whether fees for exhibiting will be reduced in light of the show lasting two days. One observed that “it remains to be seen whether a two-day event will be stronger than the three-day format”. Another told letsrecycle.com that the fact that the event was now only two days rather than three meant that there would be a conflict between taking clients out to dinner or attending the CIWM dinner. There were also concerns about the costs of moving equipment to the NEC for a two-day rather than three-day show.

Professionals

In a statement Prysm said that by co-locating its other events with RWM it would be “adding a further 8-9,000 environmental professionals visiting the NEC, around 400 more exhibitors and over 300 seminars. In addition the organisers are promising to invest in a lot more features to RWM”.

Event director Nick Woore said “We know we have a huge amount of work to do over the next 9 months, but the team and I are working night and day on this and are extremely excited about delivering a world class event that the entire industry can be truly proud of. We are working on a huge amount of new content, features, summits and must see speakers to RWM to add new dimensions to the event.”
