Ireland’s PandaGreen acquires WSR Recycling

By 06/10/2017News

Irish waste business PandaGreen Ltd has made its second acquisition in the UK with the take-over of WSR Recycling, the businesses announced today (6 October).

The business said it will continue to be known as and trade as WSR Recycling, with services continuing as normal from the Widnes site

The Cheshire-based company operating in north western England, will continue to be known as and trade as WSR Recycling, with services continuing as normal from the Widnes site, said the company.

The directors and owners of WSR, Nick and Amanda Prescott explained that they had decided to sell their business “as they feel the time is right for them now to move on and pursue other ventures and interests and to let one of the major waste management companies build on the existing and thriving business”.

The Prescotts have stepped down as directors and have been succeeded by Brian Mccabe and Eamon Waters from PandaGreen.

And the Prescotts also added that they have seen their business “transform and grow from strength to strength enabling them to work in partnership with other major waste management companies and also servicing their local authorities.

WSR Recycling is PandaGreen’s second acquisition in the UK.

“WSR acknowledge that they have been fortunate enough to have a great team of staff who have also helped to drive the business forward.”

Brian McCabe, managing director at PandaGreen said,  “We are very excited to acquire WSR and it is our intention to continue with what is already in place, and to build and develop this even further, ensuring the company continues to provide the quality of service that customers have been used to.   This acquisition is part of our strategic growth plans for the UK.”

New Earth Solutions

The WSR Recycling deal comes a year after PandaGreen (part of the Panda Group) acquired New Earth Solutions in October 2016 after the Dorset-based waste business went into administration (see letsrecycle.com story).

After the purchase of rival firm Greenstar in 2016, PandaGreen has become one of the largest players in the Irish waste collection market and has, according to its website, about 1,300 employees working across Ireland in the UK.
