Administrators appointed for County Waste

By 31/08/2017News

Midlands-based waste management company, County Waste Limited, has been placed into administration, in what has been described as a ‘complicated case’.

The administrators are asking for creditors to come forward to establish the ‘full financial position’ of the company which had Environment Agency against it last year.

“This is a complicated case. It appears that the company effectively ceased trading in February and there is limited access to its books and records.

Matthew Hardy and Andrew Turpin of Poppleton & Appleby have been appointed joint administrators over the affairs of County Waste Limited, formerly known as County Waste Recycling Limited, which traded out of Southam.

The company, which specialised in waste management and skip hire, operated across the Midlands and employed around 20 people.

According to Companies House, the director of the company was Norman Anthony Yates, 66, and Jaqueline Yates is listed as secretary.

‘Complicated case’

Matthew Hardy said: “This is a complicated case. It appears that the company effectively ceased trading in February and there is limited access to its books and records.

“It was a company which operated across the wider Midlands area and we are currently working through the information that we do have to obtain a clearer picture of the financial position.”

Mr Hardy continued: “We have heard from some former employees and some creditors but we are keen to hear from anyone who has had dealings with the company, particularly in the last 12 months.

“That will ensure that the full financial position can be established and that we are fully aware of anyone who may be owed money by the company.”

According to a statement by Poppleton & Appleby, the last set of accounts showed the firm turned over almost £4 million.

Enforcement

In 2016, the Environment Agency and Warwickshire county council (WCC) took enforcement action against County Waste Limited after the company “breached planning and Environmental Permit conditions”.

According to a joint briefing notice, WCC issued two notices to County Waste Limited for breaching their planning conditions (Breach of Condition Notices).

And, the EA served a suspension notice on the company, which prevented waste being accepted onto site.

The notice stated: “The company reduced waste levels to comply with this notice, and the suspension notice has now been lifted. The operator has to make further improvements regarding dust, or further enforcement notices may occur.”

Any creditors can contact Tony Lozano or Sharon Hill at Poppleton & Appleby on 0121 200 2962.
