Exeter-based waste firm Coastal Recycling has won a contract with Teignbridge council to deliver a rural skip service, collecting bulky waste from areas that do not have easy access to a civic amenity site.

According to Coastal Recycling, the service will bring a ‘pop up recycling facility’ to locations which are not close to a recycling centre and will allow them to recycle items, including bulky household waste, scrap metal and wood which would otherwise be difficult to dispose of.

As part of the contract, the company said it will provide and manage the service which travels to 35 sites in the across the course of 12 months – from Sheldon to Widecombe in the Moor.

Coastal Recycling said: “Each of the events will have staff on hand to help residents with their waste and recycling to ensure maximum levels of recycling and reuse achieved.”

Commenting on the contract Richard Marsh, commercial director of Coastal Recycling added: “We’re really pleased to be working with Teignbridge council to deliver this service. With our extensive experience, professional approach and our state of the art resource recycling facilities we will support them to increase rural recycling rates in the district.”

According to Coastal Recycling, the company delivered its first Rural Skip Services in Kenton and Buckfastleigh and received nearly 11 tonnes of waste and recycling across the two events.

The company said that it’s advanced sorting and processing facilities recycled over 70% of this collected material.

Chris Braines, waste and cleansing manager at Teignbridge district council said: “We’re delighted to be working with Coastal on this contract and are confident that it will mean more of the waste collected will be recycled than ever before.”

According to its website, Costal Recycling collects, separates and recycles waste materials at its sites throughout Devon.
