A man in his 40s has died after having been injured by machinery at a site operated by the waste paper merchant RRS London Waste Papers Ltd at Manor Road, Erith on Monday (27 March).
The man, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Erith is in the south east of London
In a statement, the Metropolitan Police Service said that it was called to the premises at 20:55 on Monday evening.
Metropolitan Police officers, London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade all attended the scene.
A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service confirmed that an ambulance crew was called to the site at shortly before 20:50 but that the man had died by the time that the crew had arrived.
Investigation
A joint investigation between the Metropolitan Police and the Health and Safety Executive is understood to be underway.
In a statement the Police Service said: “Enquiries continue to trace and inform next of kin.
“The death is being treated as unexplained at this time.
“The Health and Safety Executive has been informed.
“Enquiries continue.”
London Fire Brigade confirmed that two crews attended the incident, helping to free the man from the machinery before leaving the location at 21.57.
letsrecycle.com contacted a director of RRS London Waste Papers Ltd, who said he did not wish to comment on the incident.
According to the company’s website RRS London Waste Papers operates a baling and sorting operation, supplying material to the UK market as well as exporting to the Far East. Materials that the company deals with include newspaper, magazines, mixed papers, multigrade and cardboard.
