Cambridgeshire commercial waste business Ellgia has today (3 March) announced the acquisition of local competitor Purple Recycling.

The Ely-based company anticipates a ‘smooth transition’ and will take over operations at Purple Recycling’s Prickwillow site with immediate effect.

Ellgia has agreed the acuisition with Purple Recycling (l-r):_Mick Clarke, Barry Gray, Liz Trangmar, Jack Lavington, Fred Lock, Darrel McKinney and Stuart Smith

It is the latest in a number of acquisitions for Ellgia in recent years, having expanded its portfolio to include Lincolnshire-based Thompson Waste Management and J.E. Churchill (Plant) Ltd in 2014.

The business also acquired Suffolk-based A.J. Thompson Paper Recycling in November 2013.

Ellgia’s latest acquisition, Purple Recycling, specialises in offering construction and demolition waste services and skip hire across Cambridgeshire and Suffolk. The company operates a single processing site in Ely.

Staff

Steve Crook, Ellgia’s managing director, confirmed that services would continue as normal and that all staff would be retained.

He said: “We are delighted to have acquired Purple Recycling; it is a thriving business, servicing customers in the commercial and construction sector and will strengthen and widen our offer in the region.

“We have considerable experience in this sector in other parts of Eastern England, and this acquisition is complementary to our current business and allows us to expand our services across Cambridgeshire and Suffolk.

Brand

“In the future we will look to align the brand with our corporate identity and familiar green livery. However, our immediate focus will be working with Purple Recycling’s customers and staff to ensure we continue to provide a great service now and in the future as they become part of the Ellgia family.”

Established in 2011, Ellgia handles commercial waste through its three depots in Ely, Boston and Scunthorpe.
