Liz Goodwin nominated as LWARB chair
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has announced his intention to appoint former WRAP chief executive Liz Goodwin as the new chair the London Waste and Recycling Board (LWARB).

Dr Goodwin will help to lead efforts to achieve a 65% by 2020 recycling rate in the capital as well as creating jobs in reuse, repair, remanufacturing and materials innovation to support London’s transition to the ‘circular economy’, the Mayor’s office has said.
Commenting on the appointment, Mr Khan said: “Wasting less and recycling more is a crucial part of efforts to make London a cleaner, greener city. Strong, effective leadership and expertise in this area will be a key part of our efforts going forward so I’m really pleased to nominate Dr Goodwin as the new chair of LWARB.
“Dr Goodwin offers extensive knowledge of the sector and as we prepare to launch our environment strategy, I am confident she will show great leadership of LWARB at this crucial time.”
LWARB’s chief operating officer, Wayne Hubbard, added: “I am delighted Dr Goodwin has been nominated to chair LWARB. To have such an experienced industry figure at the helm for what promises to be a challenging but exciting time for London’s development will be hugely positive for the organisation.”
The appointment is subject to a confirmation hearing by the London Assembly.

John Woodruff joins Ricardo from Bromley
Environmental consultancy Ricardo Energy & Environment has announced the appointment of John Woodruff to its waste management and resources team.

Mr Woodruff joins the London-based consultancy from Bromley council, where he has worked since 2000 as head of waste services.
A senior figure in the local authority waste sector, he has also served as chair of the National Association of Waste Disposal Officers (NAWDO).
According to Ricardo, his role will focus on local authority options appraisal, benchmarking and procurement.
Commenting on the new role, Mr Woodruff said: “I am excited to start a new challenge within Ricardo, looking forward to working with the team to further develop the service we can offer to our customers, and drawing on my experience to help develop the team I am joining.”
Dr Adam Read, Ricardo Energy & Environment’s practice director for resource efficiency and waste management, added: “John’s wealth of experience and industry knowledge makes him a key addition to the team at this time when local authorities are looking to experienced consultants to help guide them through the difficult decisions arising out of Brexit, austerity, and consumer demand.”

Lydia Burchnall joins Cycle Link UK
Lydia Burchnall has been appointed purchasing manager at Cycle Link UK, part of the Chinese packaging company Anhui Shanying Group. Mrs Burchnall was previously commercial manager of Newport Paper.

Cycle Link is among the biggest names in the UK recovered fibre export market and sources about 900,000 tonnes per annum of recovered fibre. The Anhui Shanying Group currently operates two paper making centres in China using 100% recovered fibre, with an annual production capacity of over 3.5 million tonnes.
According to the company Mrs Burchnall’s new role is to focus on securing ‘good quality’ recovered fibre from existing and new suppliers and the development of internal processes and procedures.
Commenting on her new role she said: “This is a very exciting time to be joining Cycle Link UK and I’m looking forward to helping make the business a leader in the export market. By utilising the shared strength and resources across the Group, we aim to bring added value to our clients through multi-material sourcing opportunities and a partnership approach.”

Double appointment for Slicker Recycling
Bernard O’Sullivan FCA has been appointed finance director at oil recycling firm Slicker Recycling.

Immediately prior to his appointment, Mr O’Sullivan had served as an advisor to the company in his capacity as a financial consultant. Before that he had held senior finance positions in British Gypsum, CarnaudMetalbox and Waste Recycling Group.
In addition to all company financial matters he is responsible for HR and IT development.
Slicker Recycling has also appointed Sean Thorpe as National Sales Manager. Prior to this position he spent eight years with waste management company SWR as sales manager to its automotive division.
In his new position he is responsible for driving sales growth across the business but with special focus on bringing Slicker’s services to the automotive sector.

PHS Wastekit makes senior appointment
Waste baler, compactors and shredders specialist PHS Wastekit has appointed Joe Roberts to head up its senior management team.

Mr Roberts brings with him a wealth of experience gained from previous roles as head of operations at ICI Paints, sales & operations director at Buck & Hickman Ltd, and operations director at Copart UK Ltd.
His focus at PHS Wastekit will be on growing the company’s market share in the UK and Ireland.
