Logistics giant DHL has sold its WEEE and packaging compliance services to the Landbell Group – the main shareholder in another compliance specialist, ERP – for an undisclosed sum.
The sale was announced this week (January 9) as part of a new ‘strategic partnership’ agreement between Germany’s DHL and the German compliance company Landbell. By joining forces, the two firms said they hoped to provide a ‘one-stop-shop’ for all their customers’ environmental management and compliance needs.
Under this arrangement, DHL will continue to provide customers with supply chain and recycling services through its EnviroSolutions arm, while European Recycling Platform (ERP) will carry out data and compliance services for electrical and electronic equipment, packaging and batteries.
Employees
All DHL’s WEEE and packaging compliance, pan-European and data services have been permanently transferred to ERP UK Ltd which is based in Chiswick, West London. Relevant employees have also transferred to ERP UK under the TUPE Regulations.
A spokesperson for the two companies declined to comment on how much the services had been acquired for.
The deal will mean that a number of local authorities will have their WEEE collections from CA sites transferred to ERP. Previously DHL is thought to have handled material from councils including those in north and west London, Warwickshire and Surrey while ERP’s portfolio includes Leicestershire and Northern Ireland.
Speaking earlier this week, Paul Richardson, managing director of specialist services at DHL Supply Chain said: “Our partnership with Landbell Group delivers a fantastic new solution for our customers, revolutionising how businesses access waste management and compliance services. Today’s announcement is a game-changer – not only offering the broadest solution in Europe but one that’s unrivalled in both scope and expertise.”

WEEE Directive
ERP was founded in December 2002 in response to the introduction of the European Union’s Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive and in 2014 Landbell Group became the main shareholder in the company. ERP currently offers recycling and compliance services for WEEE, batteries and packaging to more than 2,500 customers in 32 countries.
Jan Patrick Schulz, chief executive of the Landbell Group, added: “Supply chain and resource management can prove a complex challenge for businesses. This is why we are confident that our new partnership with DHL will be of huge benefit to our customers. By pooling our expertise, we will lower market entry barriers by offering customers a ‘one-stop-shop’ solution for all of their environmental, supply chain and compliance needs.”
